2023 Retirement Dates to Remember
Download this guide to important retirement-focused dates for Medicare enrollment, Tax Planning deadlines, RMDs, and more.
These considerations may help minimize taxes and maximize income — for you or your parents.
2023-01-15
- Open Enrollment ends for an Affordable Care Act (ACA) Health Insurance.
2023-01-16
- 2022 Q4 estimated tax payment due
2023-02-15
- Are you 59 1/2 or older and still working? You may be able to elect and 'In-Service' rollover of your 401(k) or TSP to an IRA and prepare for retirement.*
2023-03-31
- General enrollment for traditional Medicare and open enrollment for Medicare Advantage ends.
2023-04-03
- Did you turn 72 after June 30, 2022? If so, April 3, 2022 is your deadline to take your first RMD
2023-04-18
- TAX DAY! 2022 Income Tax Returns are due.
- Last chance to make contributions to an IRA or HSA for 2022.
- First estimate tax payment due for 2023.
- Deadline to request an extension on your federal income tax return (if needed).
2023-05-15
- Risk Review. This could be the perfect time to review your investment balance and stress test for hidden risks.*
2023-06-15
- Second quarter 2023 estimated taxes are due. Are you keeping up on taxes due on Roth Conversions?
2023-07-01
- Avoid penalties for any underpayment of 2023 estimated taxes. Pay at least 90% of the current year tax tab or 100% of prior year (110% if high income).
2023-08-01
- Estate tune-up. Is your estate plan up-to-date? Do you have proof that each asset you own has beneficiaries (bank, insurance, IRAs, etc.)? *
2023-09-15
- Third quarter 2023 estimated tax payment for 2023 is due (you could catch up by withholding taxes from your RMD).
2023-10-16
- Income tax return deadline if you filed an extension.
- Medicare open enrollment begins with coverage beginning in 2024.
2023-11-01
- Early retirees can buy health insurance on the ACA exchange with coverage beginning in 2024.
2023-12-01
- Begin QCD (Qualified Charitable Distribution) process so the charity can receive the money in time (ages 70 1/2+ can give up to $100k).*
2023-12-03
- Review your YTD investment gains and losses, complete year-end tax planning (deduction bunching, gifting, harvesting losses, etc.).*
2023-12-07
- Medicare open enrollment ends.
2023-12-15
- Roth conversions should be completed by now to ensure it is completed before year-end.
2023-12-31
