There are 3 distinct phases in your financial life cycle:

Phase One: Accumulation

The time you’ve spent working and contributing to a nest egg in hopes that you will one day have accumulated enough money to retire comfortably.

Phase Two: Retirement

The time when you stop working, no longer contribute to your nest egg, and instead begin to withdraw from it. The focus is now on protecting your nest egg and distributing it appropriately, so that you can maintain your lifestyle and never run out of money.
